Don't volunteer for anything, it's usually bad news whey the Drill Sergeants ask for volunteers.

Eyes and ears open. Learn as much as you can. It's all there for you.

When you are first shipped 'down range' DON'T look the d/s in the eye. Look strait ahead as if he isn't even there. Also don't show any fear during the 'shark attack'. Be prepared to get smoked and do an ungodly amount of pushups for no reason. Don't think just do. Thats probably the best advice I could give, Don't think just do.

The best thing I can tell you is don't give up. If you can't do as much as they ask but never quit, they will work with you to get you up to par. That and sometimes they will have you do things that you might think are stupid or BS, Remember, there is reason for everything you do, you may not understand now, but you will later.

everything boils down to one phrase: there is the easy way, the hard way, and the army way.

There is nothing to it really, just do what you are supposed to, when you are supposed to, and how you are supposed to and its just a couple month vacation. Then you graduate and see what the army is really like.

you are gonna have to keep up with the acronyms and military slang private!!...lol

shark attack....when all the Drill Sgts first get to ya, and go nuts!!
Smoke...pushups, sit ups, side straddle hops (jumping jacks)
beat your face!!!...push ups.

ok, so Never thank your drill sgt, thank your recruiter! Do as your told, when you are told. You joined, they are trying to weed out who really wants to be there.

What MOS (JOB) did you sign up for?

i went to Ft. Benning for my basic in 98, first you'll go to what they call a replacment center where you will get issued all of your uniforms, and shots....you will be there 1 to 3 weeks. The drill sergeants there will then put your ass in big ass cattle trucks and ship you to your basic training battalion.... that is what they mean when they say your going down range..... have fun PRIVATE!!!! lol

About the volunteer stuff, yes. Drill Sergeant is just going to tell you to do it anyway, so why be a martyr?

Tuflehundon's post sounds right on. Don't pussy out. Basic training is serious physical effort, but it's more mental than physical. Basic training is a science, made to break doofus kids down to nothing, then build them back as a team. It works every time, if you're mentally tough enough. Every person on this website has made it through. So can you.

These guys have pretty muched said everything there is to know about it.
Like they said, you'll be a reception for a good week, than you go to your battallion.
When we marched to our battallion, as soon as we got into the company area, all the DS's started yelling shit and telling us to drop, thats a shark attack. They try to break you and get into your head.
Good luck

03-08-2009, 19:18
yup.
good thing for you, your going to benning where they dont have females and males, just males.
the females caused most of the problems in basic.
just remember,
its all mental and some physical, your body will keep going if you tell yourself you can do it.
its about teamwork, the more you work together the better it will be.
and lastly, enjoy training on US Weapons...

You keep your wits about you and pay attention and you will know when to Volunteer and when not to Volunteer. Dont be afraid to step forward not all of it is bad but if you pay attention you will know when to step up. Basic is not all bad. It will help you just dont be like half these little shits that I get here now. Dont want to work or listen it usually takes a couple of AR 15s to get them to understand they are here to work and not collect a free check. Plus I take all there free time.

Yeah, me too. I work with a bunch of 68Ws, and I cannot put online some of the stories I hear. 68W can lead to Flight Medic if you care for that.

I had the pleasure of going through Benning for basic in the summer also. The worst part is the weather. Everything else in pretty fun actually. Ga is hot and humid be ready for that. It also rained alot during the summer which just made it even worse. Drink lots of water and eat as much food as you can when you can. Plus you get a chance to sleep do it.

tattedjoe
05-14-2009, 23:29
its not that hot down there during the summer.....

My advise is fly low under the radar. You will see the Joe's who like to speak up and make an ass out of themselves. Let them do all the talking, bragging, horseplay, etc etc. Fly low, do what your told, and keep your trap shut. Also dont be the PT stud and finish first on runs, do the most pushups etc etc. Slow and steady in the middle of the pack is the way to go.
On the last day at our graduation my DS didn't even know I was in his platoon! I still got first time gos and all that crap, I just kept my mouth shut.
Once your done with basic and AIT you can run your yapper all you like haha.
Good luck!!

I so agree with you Eric, This is the best way to stay out of the limelight.
People who run in the middle of the pack survive the most, Don't call attention to yourself stay a ghost.............
