Is there any way for a non-dod civilian to get a CAC? I've recently left the AF and just finished my IASO certification; I've got permission and registered access into the IA Portal with proper PKI Certificates installed (on this computer) but no CAC, no access.

Just looking to expand my skills that's about it; need to finish this BBA before finding a govt/dod job.

Anyone have any ideas?

Aren't the CAC cards only for DOD employees and DOD contract employees?

Typically yes, but I'm always looking for exceptions. Hell I still have my afcrossroads email and I'm neither and not family sponsored anymore.

I don't know for sure, but I would think that unless you are DOD employed you won't get a CAC...

No, unless you are a DOD Civilian or Contractor you can't have a CAC. Those cards are actually controlled items and technically you can be punished if you lose one...not that you will, but technically you can. The DOD computers will soon all be access only by CAC, so if you have no CAC...no access.
When you get out...become a contractor or GS employee :dur:

I like it. We can use our CAC PIN to log in to all of our personal shit. I was tired of having a piece of paper in my wallet with 32145 usernames and passwords written down.

I understand what you mean. So far for us though I don't have any problem with what they are doing. I like having more control over my stuff though. That's less that I have to worry about getting fucked up by other people. Ya know?

What I hate about it is going home every day and after I get changed and everything I remember I left my CAC Card in the computer so I'll have to go back and get it  GRRR

I work with a TSgt that no one likes. One day he left his in the card reader and our shop chief (MSgt) took a sharpie to the TSgt's ID picture. It was pure greatness when we gave it to him the next day.

CAC's Suck!!!! And the navy's NMCI (Non mission capable internet) sucks just as bad. My shop has gone through 3 keyboards because of that damn card reader breaks. Also the NMCI password seems like every 2 weeks you need to renew. After using the CAC card for a while you get prompted to change a password you dont use at all.
Wow I didnt realize that i was this upset about this crap.:baby:
